[Northern Ireland] Full redundancy payments for furloughed employees

18 AUG 2020

Employment lawyers have welcomed legislative changes which mean workers in Northern Ireland who lose their jobs while furloughed will receive redundancy pay based on their normal wages. The new law was announced by Economy Minister Diane Dodds on August 13. It will bring Northern Ireland into step with the rest of the UK where changes were made earlier this month. Additionally, the changes will ensure that statutory notice pay and awards for unfair dismissal cases will now also be based on full pay rather than wages received under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). The legislation comes at a time when redundancy is a real concern for many. Irish Legal News reports the contents of Minister Dodds’ announcement and the reception
