[Portugal] Ryanair criticised for ‘indecent’ offer to employees

17 AUG 2020

Ryanair is facing criticism for an offer to its employees of a contract for a salary lower than the Portuguese minimum wage or expatriation. According to recent reporting by the Portuguese newspaper Journal de Notícias, employees refusing to accept one of the two options lost their jobs. The offer was reportedly made to about 30 Ryanair employees - excluding pilots - in Portugal.

The Journal de Notícias article said the airline offered a basic gross salary of €588 per month to workers recruited by a temporary employment agency working exclusively for the airline. Portugal's minimum legal wage is €635. Employees could choose only one other option: expatriation. RTL Today has further details of the controversial offer and reactions to it.
