[Saipan] Unpaid IPI Workers Protest ‘Frozen Payroll’

25 JUN 2020

On June 22 outside the federal court in Garapan, dozens of Imperial Pacific International workers protested about their unpaid salaries; unpaid as a result of IPI’s frozen bank accounts. Protesters included construction workers and managers from Italy, Mongolia, Turkey and Taiwan all employed by H-2B.

Alongside them were casino personnel on CW-1 permits, including Michelin Star chef, Hai Son Chen, and local employees. The group assembled outside the Horiguchi Building at 10 a.m, displayed their placards and shared their concerns with reporters. In under an hour, the protesters moved to the CNMI Labor office on Capital Hill. Marianas Variety spoke with them about the impact of the payroll freeze.
