[Singapore] $52k fine for firm falsely declaring workers’ salaries

24 AUG 2020

According to court documents, a firm inflated its monthly salaries in applications to secure work passes for its foreign employees from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). The salary figures were reportedly increased to fulfil the minimum salary requirements for work passes to be granted.

On August 20, 7Star Restaurant was fined $52,000 following its guilty plea to four charges relating to false declarations of the salaries of four of its employees to MOM. Eight additional charges - involving the salaries of other employees - were considered during sentencing by District Judge Adam Nakhoda. The Straits Times has further details of the case.
