MidlandHR and Nottingham Business School join forces to encourage HR Innovation


*Special award and announcement of new collaborative research*
MidlandHR, sponsor of Nottingham Business School's MSc Strategic Human Resources Management course, presented a special award to Emma Marlee for her winning dissertation entitled: Redundancy – The Potential Impact on the Psychological Contract.


  Using a case-study approach and qualitative research interviews, Emma provided an employee perspective of the psychological contract pre and post redundancy, thereby identifying the emotional responses to a redundancy programme. Emma is a senior consultant at Deloitte’s People and Programmes practice (London).

Commenting on Emma’s accomplishment, MidlandHR’s marketing director, Richard Thomas – who presented the award – explains: “With austerity measures still high on the business agenda, redundancies and their effect on employees and organisations continue to be relevant in 2012. At MidlandHR, we place great importance on business insight and innovation, and sponsorship of this award is closely aligned with our core strategy of understanding the business challenges facing today’s HR professionals. It’s fascinating to see how these have changed over the ten years since we first sponsored the course.”
Dr Anne Sempik, principal lecturer and programme leader at Nottingham Business School, part of Nottingham Trent University, comments: “It was obvious that Emma thought clearly about her project from start to finish and the result was a well-rounded dissertation. While there were many fantastic dissertations this year, Emma’s stood out from the crowd from both a practical and academic perspective.”
In a further commitment to encouraging innovation in HR, Nottingham Business School and leading HR management software and services provider, MidlandHR, are partnering on a new, collaborative research project to analyse the relationship between electronic human resources management (EHRM) and innovation in HR.
Nottingham Business School professor of HR Innovation, Carole Tansley, along with senior lecturer, Hazel Williams, will make on-site visits to some of MidlandHR’s most strategic customers, interviewing key HR and project team employees and iTrent users, looking at themes such as building the business case, enablement and transformation. The findings will be collated, analysed and included in a research booklet.
