MidlandHR offers customers extended support hours as RTI deadline approaches

MidlandHR has announced that it will be providing a special out of hours RTI advice line for customers on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April to support those that will be submitting their RTI files on or after the official date set by HMRC of 6th April.
One organisation which believes this additional support could be extremely useful to companies who have yet to submit their files is Compuware. The technology performance company has already successfully participated in HMRC’s RTI pilot scheme and worked closely with MidlandHR’s specialist payroll advisers and members of HMRC to ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible.
Elizabeth Fletcher, payroll manager, Compuware, comments: “Being part of the HMRC pilot and having MidlandHR’s experts on hand to help answer queries and discuss issues as they arose proved extremely valuable and definitely made the whole process less cumbersome than had we been doing it independently. I think this service will give customers peace of mind, knowing MidlandHR is on hand to answer any last minute questions.”
Having been a MidlandHR partner for 12 years, Compuware chose to take part in HMRC’s RTI pilot as it believed the payroll for its 150 employees had some unique aspects which could have made RTI particularly challenging. Elizabeth Fletcher explains: “We knew that we were quite unusual in that we do additional non-taxable expense-only runs, which we were concerned might pose a problem for the monthly RTI submissions. The pilot project therefore seemed an excellent opportunity to ensure that we faced any challenges early on and with the full support of both HMRC and our payroll technology partner, MidlandHR.
“Being part of the pilot did mean we faced one or two early issues which other organisations won’t now have to worry about. As we had already invested a lot of time in making sure our data was clean and up-to-date, RTI has not created a lot more workload for us as an organisation, although it does mean that we have to process two additional FPS runs each month for the two expense payments, although these attract neither NI nor PAYE. A further consequence of RTI is that we have also needed to change our Leaver process administration.”
